AIH Delete

The Air Intake Heater is located in the Y pipe of the intake tube. Its purpose:  "To reduce white smoke during long idle periods at low ambient temperatures, the PCM will activate the intake air heater. Specific conditions must be present before the heater is activated: These conditions are the ambient temp must be below 32F, oil temp must be below 131F, vehicle power is between 11.8 and 15 volts, tranny in park or neutral, glow plugs must be off.” If I remove it I will have white smoke when its cold out! Who cares, this thing blocks off 20% of the air flow. Time for a cheap upgrade. www.Dieselsite.com has a plug and washer for $8 so I had them send me one when I got my boost valve.

I did not get a before picture with the AIH in place so I borrowed this from dieselsite.com.

The red wire is connected to the solenoid post. There is a blue wire on this post also so make sure you put it back on after the red one is removed. The black ground wire is bolted to the engine under the Y pipe on the drivers side. I took mine all the way out. The AIH can be removed with an adjustable wrench or a 21mm deap socket.

I took this so you can get an idea of size of the AIH, that sucker will not block any more air for me. That is Pepsi Edge by the way, 50% less sugar and carbs, and people say I dont eat and drink healthy, HAH.

The plug threads in with the supplied washer and is just snugged up. Its a much cleaner look. I noticed a little more pick up on the mid range after this. Anything to help out air flow is good. It really helps with later performance mods.
